President's Message
April 2010
Welcome! Thank you for visiting the website of the First State Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators. The First State Chapter was chartered in 1979 and has more than 50 members who enjoy the professional growth, educational and networking opportunities that the organization offers.
Local ALA chapters, such as ours, are supported by a national organization that assists us in delivering excellent resources to our members. With just a phone call or a click, we have access to the information we all need to do our jobs effectively and to effortlessly wear the many hats we are asked to wear each day! On a monthly basis, the First State Chapter delivers excellent programming to its members and, we often engage speakers who presented at a national or regional conference. This kind of information sharing and commitment to the success of our peer administrators is the cornerstone of our Chapter’s success.
We have some exciting times ahead of us. This year, the National Conference will be in Boston and our neighbors to the north in New Jersey will host the Regional Conference. At the local level, we will be hosting our Managing Partner’s Dinner in May, our annual Community Challenge Event in October and our Bar Education Event in November.
Our goals for the coming year are also ambitious. We want to continue to engage our Business Partners and create opportunities for each to meet and mingle with our memberships. We would like to increase membership and member participation in Chapter programs and activities and we encourage all to offer suggestions about how we can make your membership in the ALA as productive and rewarding an experience as possible. We will continue to offer excellent formal and informal learning opportunities and we hope to increase the awareness of our Chapter and its mission in the Delaware legal community.
It is a privilege to serve as the First State Chapter president. Our Chapter success is made possible through the combined efforts of our extraordinary Board and committee members and by all members who participated in our monthly meetings, gathered with us at a social function or helped our most needy neighbors through a community challenge event. Membership in the ALA offers many benefits; however, it is hard to summarize the value and depth of the friendships developed by attending meetings, socials, and conferences and by simply talking to other administrators. I encourage you to make the most of your membership by utilizing the resources available and by cultivating relationships with your peers, our most valuable resource…I guarantee, you won’t be disappointed!
